Monte Penide, also known as Monte Mirallo, houses important archaeological sites representative of no less than 4,000 years of prehistory. The peneplain of Monte Penide was formed as a place of passage since prehistory, giving rise to the installation of different cultures over time and evolving with them. There are very scattered Paleolithic finds on the surface, which testify to a very ancient occupation of the territory, possibly from the Lower Paleolithic in the Pleistocene period (more than 100,000 years ago). More visible are the remains left by the most recent prehistoric communities.
