It is a tradition in Redondela to celebrate the Cuttlefish Festival (Festa do Choco) in the first fortnight of May, a gastronomic celebration of exaltation of this product so typical of the municipality (the people of Redondela were known as choqueiros). It began in 1987. These cuttlefish are caught by local sailors, especially during spring, which is the traditional season for this mollusk. For this, they make use of traditional arts, such as pots. This festival brings together the most important hoteliers in the municipality. They participate in a gastronomic competition divided into categories. This contest is the main star of the festival, in which the municipality shows and extols its product par excellence. The venue for the festival is located in the very center of Redondela, in the existing car park next to the Alameda gardens. The different vendors and tables for diners are installed there. In the same enclosure the traditional concert is celebrated, as well as different activities of folk groups and an extensive program of festive and cultural activities.
